Optometric Technician (Optometric Tech) Responsibilities & Duties:

- Conducting routine tests, including visual acuity, color blindness, depth perception, and medical histories.

- Assisting optometrists prior to eye exams by reading glasses on a lensometer and performing auto-refraction.

- Operating and maintaining equipment, such as automated visual field analyzers, fundus cameras and optical coherence tomography (OCT) machines.

- Contact lens training.

- Providing patients with educational materials and explanations of results.

- Maintaining a clean and organized work area.

- Knowledge of electronic medical records (EMR) systems.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Proficiency with optical diagnostic equipment.

- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

- Attention to detail and accuracy in patient data entry.

- Familiarity with insurance billing and coding for optometric services.

 

Job Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Certification as an Optometric Technician is ideal but not required.

- 1-2 years of experience as an Optometric Technician is ideal but not required.

- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.

- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

- Attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping.
